Current employment is just under 300 being a mix of
roles including administrative, technical, trades and
miners. Premier Coal places a great emphasis on training
and skills development as well as support for the communities
where most of the company employees live. |

Premier Coal employs nearly 280 people in a variety of professions
including:
- operation of equipment and plant eg shovels,
trucks, dozers
- maintenance (tradespersons such as electricians,
mechanics, boilermakers);
- mining engineering;
- geology;
- surveying;
- Accounting & Taxation;
- Finance, Business Analysis & Development;
- Procurement;
- Administrative / clerical / Secretarial;
- Human Resources;
- Information Technology; and
- Safety and Environmental Management.
Distribution of employees can be broken down approximately as
follows: 140“Miners” ie equipment operators, 63“Trades”
(for maintenance), 15 “apprentices” and 63 support
Staff such as managers, supervisors, engineers, geologists and
accountants.
The Company encourages the development of employees by assisting
and providing further education and training. Our education
scheme for employees includes reimbursement of fees and costs.
Premier Coal has a long history of providing apprenticeships
for local youth and at any one time has up to 20 undergoing
indentures. In addition, the Company provides a similar number
of tertiary students with vacation employment as well as work
experience for local high school students.
Leadership development is also considered vital and many
of our people have undergone various management development
programs. We have recently had 39 employees complete the Frontline
Leadership Program.
Vital to our thinking is the safety and health of our employees.
Premier Coal provides an onsite medical centre and nurse as
well as health programs and a free, confidential employee
assistance program through an external service provider.

Employment opportunities at Premier Coal are varied. The general
workforce is dominated by people from the Collie and surrounding
regions. Consequently, turnover is limited. Turnover of employees
in the Professional ranks is greater and provides regular
opportunities.
30 Year Club:
Reflecting the stable workforce at Premier Coal is the company’s
30-Year Service Club. This social club has 29 of our current
employees as members and an active membership of 66 former
and current employees. Premier Coal is proud to recognise
this dedication to the Company and assists with the Club’s
social activities.
